The Brazilian Bar Association of Rio de Janeiro is another customer that counts with the support of Bacula USA, with the ease of the Bweb interface and with the plugins for backup of databases and virtual machines.

The origins of the OAB are linked to the movement that resulted in the Independence of Brazil. Shortly after September 7, 1822, discussions began in the Constituent Assembly and then in the Legislative Assembly, aiming at the foundation of legal courses. With the law of August 11, 1827, the first two courses of the country were created, one in São Paulo, the other in Olinda.

At the same time, in the midst of lawyers, there was growing idea of organizing an entity to bring the class together.

The August 7, 1843, Notice of the Imperial Government granted the approval of the statutes drawn up by a lawyers’ commission, in the following terms:

“His Majesty the Emperor, with kindly deference to what was presented to him by several lawyers of this Court, orders the Secretary of State for the Affairs of Justice to approve the Statutes of the Brazilian Lawyers’ Institute, which the Supplicants have raised to their Augusta presence; these decrees, signed by the General Official Council of the same Secretary of State, with the clause, however, that the internal regulations of the said statutes will also be submitted to Imperial Approval. Honorio Hermeto Carneiro Leão.”

The two initial articles of the statute of the new institution were:

“Art. 1 – There will be in the capital of the Empire an Institute with the title – Brazilian Lawyers Institute – which will be members all law graduates who enroll within the deadline set forth in the bylaws, where also determine the number and qualification of the effective, honorary and supernumerary members residing in the Court and in the provinces.

Art. 2 – The purpose of the Institute is to organize the Bar Association, for the general benefit of the science of jurisprudence.
